Pekina Reservoir

Pekina Reservoir (near Pekina and Orroroo)

Pekina is an Aboriginal word having reference to ‘creek water’. Land in the area was purchased by Price Maurice in 1846 and became one of the most profitable sheep runs in Australia

In 2016, the Australian Census stated that Pekina had a population of 67 people, including 19 families. Employment was mainly in the farming and education occupations

The township is home to the Church of St Catherine (Catholic) and the Pekina Hotel. I happily spent my year 12 retreat at both establishments 😀
